Edo Police arrest medical doctor over possession of firearmĀ 

Edo State Police Command has arrested a medical doctor identified as Dr. Kingsley Dele of Obaretin community for illegally possessing gun.

A statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Eno Ikoedem said the arrest was carried out on February 29.

The PPRO explained that the suspect was arrested by operatives of the Command Intelligence and Rapid Response Squad, CIRRS while acting on actionable and credible intelligence.

She said one Beretta pistol was recovered from the suspect.

The PPRO added that the arrest formed part of the ā€œsustained and strategic offensive being championed by the Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, against the circulation of illicit weapons which often fuel violent crimes across communities.

ā€œThe Command views the illegal possession of firearms, regardless of status or profession of those involved, as a grave threat to public peace and will continue to respond with firmness and precision.

ā€œThe suspect will be charged to court upon conclusion of investigation.

ā€œThe CP, assures residents that the Command remains vigilant, proactive, and unrelenting in its mandate to safeguard lives and property.

ā€œHe further calls on members of the public to sustain their cooperation with law enforcement through timely information sharingā€.

DAILY POST reports that Edo has recently recorded a series of kidnapping incidents, leading some persons to prepare for self-defense.
