Lagos APC postpones exco inauguration over official’s death

The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Lagos State has postponed the inauguration of its newly elected state executive committee following the sudden death of the party’s Assistant Publicity Secretary-elect, Yesiro Karamo.

Karamo reportedly died on Wednesday, barely hours after participating in the party’s state congress held on Tuesday at the Mobolaji Johnson Stadium in Onikan, Lagos, where he was re-elected into the position.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the party’s state Publicity Secretary, Seye Oladejo.

According to Oladejo, the party received news of Karamo’s death with deep shock and sadness, describing the loss as a painful moment for the party.

“The Lagos State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress received with profound shock and deep sorrow the news of the sudden demise of our newly elected Assistant Publicity Secretary, Karamo Yesiro,” the statement said.

He added that the late party chieftain’s death came at a time when his commitment and enthusiasm for progressive politics would have greatly benefited the party.

“Yesiro’s passing is a painful and tragic loss to our great party at a time when his energy, commitment, and passion for progressive politics were most needed. Having just been entrusted with the responsibility of serving in the State Executive Council, he embodied dedication, loyalty, and an unwavering belief in the ideals of our party,” the statement added.

Party members and supporters had earlier gathered at the party’s state secretariat in Acme, Ogba, on Thursday for the scheduled inauguration of the new executives.

However, they were informed upon arrival that the ceremony had been postponed in honour of the deceased.

Following the announcement, several party leaders left the secretariat to pay condolence visits to the bereaved family.
