
A minor road accident in Bayo Local Government Area of Borno State turned deadly on Saturday evening after a passenger was allegedly stabbed to death during an argument that followed the crash.
Police sources told Zagazola Makama that the incident occurred at about 5:30 p.m. on March 7 at Gamadadi, involving a Golf car and a motorcycle.
The Golf vehicle, with registration number FUG 283 AE (Edo), was driven by Danjuma Abdullahi, a resident of Kodom in Yamaltu Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State. The vehicle was conveying five passengers from Biu to Gombe when the accident happened.
The motorcycle, a TVS model with registration number ABM 340 QA (Abuja), was ridden by Abdullahi Umar of Dadi Kowa and had two passengers identified as Abubakar Musa and Yahaya Ibrahim.
According to police accounts, the motorcyclist attempted to overtake the vehicle from the passenger side, but collided with it and fell.
āAs a result of the crash, the rider and one of the passengers, Abubakar Musa, sustained minor injuries,ā a police source said.
However, the situation reportedly escalated shortly after the accident.
Police said Yahaya Ibrahim, 30, allegedly pulled out a knife during the ensuing dispute and stabbed one of the passengers in the Golf vehicle, Ahmed Mohammed, 27, on the leg.
āThe suspect also smashed the front windshield of the vehicle using a heavy stone before fleeing the immediate scene,ā the source added.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in Bayo led a patrol team to the scene where Ahmed Mohammed, a resident of Tudun Wada Fantami in Gombe State, was found lying in a pool of blood.
He was rushed to the Cottage Hospital in Hinna, where a medical doctor later confirmed him dead on arrival.
Police said the suspect was subsequently arrested, while the knife used in the attack was recovered as evidence.
āThe corpse was photographed and later released to the victimās family for burial in accordance with Islamic rites,ā the police source said.
