Monseigneur André Guèye will be officially installed as the head of the Archdiocese of Dakar on 3 May 2025. This announcement was made by Monseigneur Benjamin Ndiaye, during an interview broadcast Sunday on RTS. “The retention date for the taking of office of the new archbishop of Dakar is 3 May 2025”, he declared. Monseigneur André Guèye, currently Bishop of Thiès and Apostolic Administrator of Saint-Louis du Sénégal, had been appointed Metropolitan Archbishop of Dakar on 22 February by Pope Francis. He succeeded Monseigneur Benjamin Ndiaye, who had presented his resignation in October 2023. However, Pope Francis had kept him at his post until recently. “It is mainly for health reasons that he has renounced pastoral governance”, explained Father Armand Ngamby Ndiaye, director of communication of the diocese of Thiès, in an interview with the APS. “After the new archbishop takes office, the various bodies constituted by the Church of the Diocese of Dakar will come to be loyal to their new leader”, said Monseigneur Benjamin Ndiaye. His academic and pastoral background has been praised by his predecessor.
