U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that Iran possesses far more missiles than previously believed and was close to launching an attack on the United States.
Trump made the statement on Monday while speaking to House Republicans during their annual policy retreat in Florida.
According to him, intelligence reports suggested Iran was preparing a major strike.
He said, “Within a week, they were going to attack us, 100 per cent. They were ready.”
Trump added that Iran had far more missiles than anyone had thought.
His comments came as the United States continues military operations against Iran. Trump suggested that the conflict might soon come to an end.
In a phone interview with CBS News from his golf club in Doral, Florida, the president said U.S. forces had already caused serious damage to Iran’s military power.
“I think the war is pretty much complete,” Trump said.
He claimed Iran’s military infrastructure had been badly weakened, saying the country no longer had an effective navy, communication systems, or air force. Trump also said many of Iran’s missiles and drones had been destroyed, including facilities used to manufacture drones.
The U.S. military reported that more than 3,000 targets inside Iran were hit during the first week of the operation.
Trump insisted that Iran had lost most of its military strength. “If you look, they have nothing left in a military sense,” he said.
