Benue State Government has said the administration of Governor Hyacinth Alia is making progress in supporting victims of the 2025 Yelewata attacks.
Technical Adviser to the Governor on Media, Publicity and Strategic Communication, Chief Solomon Iorpev, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday.
He said the government is providing humanitarian assistance alongside a resettlement programme aimed at helping affected families return to their ancestral homes.
According to him, 5,883 internally displaced persons (IDPs) have been enrolled in the Benue State Health Insurance Scheme, while new medical and sanitation facilities are being constructed to improve healthcare and prevent diseases such as Lassa fever.
Iorpev added that the government has also distributed N56 million in cash support to 1,000 verified households, with each family receiving N50,000 to help meet basic needs such as food, medicine and small-scale trade.
āA specialized technical committee was deployed to verify beneficiaries and ensure accountability, guaranteeing that every naira reaches its intended recipients.
āTo support the resettlement efforts, the administration is building 60 new two-bedroom homes and classroom blocks in Yelewata, replacing overcrowded camps with structured communities. So far, 53 out of the 60 have reached lintel level.
āThrough these initiatives, the Benue State Government is working towards restoring stability, dignity, and livelihoods to affected families,ā the statement said.
