A member of the House of Representatives, Akin Rotimi Jr, has raised concern over the growing cases of kidnapping and killings in several communities in Ekiti State, calling for urgent intervention by security agencies.
Mr Rotimi, who represents the Ikole/Oye Federal Constituency, raised the alarm on Tuesday during plenary at the House of Representatives in Abuja, where he lamented the worsening insecurity affecting residents across the state.
According to him, “communities have recently witnessed a disturbing rise in attacks by suspected kidnappers and armed criminals, leaving many residents living in fear and uncertainty”.
The lawmaker noted that the persistent attacks have disrupted farming and other economic activities, as many farmers are now afraid to go to their farms due to safety concerns.
He urged the Federal Government and security agencies to urgently strengthen surveillance, deploy more security personnel to vulnerable communities and improve intelligence gathering to curb the growing wave of kidnappings and killings.
The Ikole representative also called for stronger collaboration between local vigilantes, traditional rulers and security operatives to ensure better protection of lives and properties across the affected communities.
