New attack in Faranding: the border security persists despite the patrols

The quiet of the inhabitants of Faranding, in the commune of Missirah Sirimana (département of Saraya), was again disturbed in the night of Sunday, at around 21 hours. The fears were renewed just after the faithful left the mosque, plunging the population into panic. The assault targeted Faranding-Mali, a village situated on the other side of the Falémé River, opposite its Senegalese homonym, Faranding-Senegal. This attack is part of a series of incidents that continue to weaken the region, despite the regular patrols of the forces of order. Since the attack in December 2024, which claimed the life of a woman, the population of Faranding and the surrounding area has been living under the constant threat of insecurity, particularly along the border with Mali. “The patrols exist, but they remain insufficient to put an end to these attacks”, laments a resident. They also stress the importance of increased cooperation between the security forces and local communities in order to identify and neutralize armed gangs, often associated with the illegal gold mining activities that thrive in the region.
