Former Minister, Cecilia Dapaah, has revealed in court exactly how much cash and valuables were stolen from her by her househelps
Taking the stand to testify against the househelps who robbed her, Dapaah said that aside from the large cash sums stolen from her, the househelps also stole $53,000 worth of jewelry from her storage room.
Regarding the cash sums, Dapaah said the househelps stole the sums of $410,000, €300,000, and GHS350,000.
Dapaah, who was the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources under the erstwhile NPP government, said these stolen items were part of assets she had worked hard to accrue for herself over three decades.
Two former househelps in the Minister’s household, 18-year-old Patience Botwe and 30-year-old Sarah Agyei, are accused of theft and other crimes in regards to large sums of cash stolen from Dapaah’s storage room covering a period between July and October 2022. Aside from the large cash sums and jewelry, the first accused also allegedly stole Kente cloth worth Ghc 90,000 and six sets of men’s suits worth $3,000.
Dapaah faced huge public backlash over having all these large sums of money stashed in her home after the news broke two years ago. However, she faced no corruption charges and is now testifying against her househelps, who are likely to be jailed.
