Local team plans to unite community through sports

Kwa-Thema – The Shine On Us Future Academy is on a mission to hold events that will bring the people of Kwatsaduza together.

“It pains me when I attend events in other places and see how excited the youth are to participate in sports. Some neighbourhoods have sporting events every weekend so the young people do not run out of things to do.

“There was a time in Kwatsaduza when sport was everywhere. We were spoilt for choice. The local companies would sponsor events, but now our facilities are falling apart. Some schools do not even have coaches,” explained Vusi Radinne, the club’s founder.

He said he also wants to create events accessible to people with disabilities. Club administrator Makhosazana Nkambule said they want to teach young athletes about the opportunities in sports.

“We know the youth unemployment rate is high, but some youth have sporting talents waiting to be nurtured. If the young ones see the older ones do well, they will be encouraged to commit to their sport of choice,” Nkambule explained.

Shine On Us will host a tournament at the Ext 7 ground on April 27, followed by a poetry session on April 28 at the Bicycle Shop (Black Road).
