The Taraba State Mobile Court on Environmental Protection, Public Safety and Prohibition of Deforestation during the weekend impounded several trucks allegedly involved in illegal mining activities along the Wukari–Chinkai axis, in Wukari local government council of the state.
The enforcement operation, carried out on Friday, as gathered by DAILY POST, followed a patrol by officials of the mobile court along the Wukari highway.
During the exercise, authorities were said to have intercepted multiple trucks transporting coal and other solid minerals suspected to have been mined illegally.
One of the officials who told our reporter that, the vehicles were immediately impounded, said the offenders were summarily tried in accordance with provisions of the executive order regulating environmental protection and mining activities in the state.
Officials said the action serves as a strong warning that Executive Order No. 5 remains fully in force and will continue to be strictly enforced across Taraba State.
Authorities also advised residents and operators in the mining sector to refrain from engaging in illegal mining, warning that violators would face legal consequences.
They noted that illegal mining has far reaching environmental impacts, including land degradation, threats to human survival, disruption of food security, and increased risks to public safety.
The state government reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the environment and ensuring the sustainable use of natural resources for the benefit of present and future generations.
