Former African and Nigerian champions, Enyimba Football Club of Aba, on Sunday defeated Plateau United FC of Jos by 2-0 in Match 30 of the Nigerian Premier Football League (NPFL).
Two second-half goals, scored by Paul Odey and Ufere Chinedu in the 55th and 63rd minutes, secured the maximum three points for Enyimba.
The match was played in a fan-filled atmosphere inside the Aba Stadium, as a large crowd of supporters attended following an open gate policy declared by the Enyimba management for the game.
The first 45 minutes of the NPFL match ended 0-0, as the two teams failed to score from their created opportunities.
Despite the red card shown to the Plateau United goalkeeper in the 21st minute for handling the ball outside his 18-yard box, the match remained goalless through the first half.
But strikes from Paul Odey and Ufere Chinedu in the second half turned the match in Enyimbaās favour, to the delight of the home fans.
With the Sunday victory, Enyimba now has 36 points from 30 matches, having won 9, drawn 9, and lost 12.
The club has climbed out of the relegation zone and is now occupying 15th position on the NPFL table.
