The Adamawa State House of Assembly has been presented with a bill designed to inculcate a tree-planting culture among residents.
The member representing Song Constituency in the Adamawa State House of Assembly, Emmanuel Kefas, is the chief sponsor of the bill for a law to provide for the planting of trees in and around premises by individual residents.
The bill was introduced to ensure that citizens engage in the planting of trees in and around their premises and along the roadsides near them, and for the state and the various local governments to plant trees along streets and within government premises.
The legislative bill is co-sponsored by the Speaker, Bathiya Wesley, and seven other lawmakers of the assembly.
The bill is significant for Adamawa State, particularly for Yola, which is one of the hottest cities in Nigeria and also one of the least forested, making the heat barely bearable, particularly in the month of March, April and May.
