Gov Lawal’s defection sparks massive APC membership surge in Zamfara

The Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, SSG, Malam Abubukar Nakwada, has revealed that the recent defection of Governor Dauda Lawal to the All Progressives Congress, APC, has triggered a significant surge in party’s e-membership exercise across the state.

Speaking on Monday while overseeing the ongoing e-membership registration exercise in Gusau and Bungudu local government areas, Nakwada disclosed that the total number of registered APC members in Zamfara has risen to 158,697, just three days after the party reopened its registration portal following the governor’s defection.

“Within three days of reopening registration, approximately 60,987 new members have joined, adding to the 97,710 who were already registered prior to Governor Lawal’s move,” he said.

“This brings the total membership to 158,697 as of 19:30 hours on March 15. On average, more than 20,000 people are registering daily, reflecting the governor’s strong grassroots appeal and the growing popularity of the APC in Zamfara.”

Nakwada expressed optimism that the party would reach its new membership target before the March 25 deadline.

He also commended the resilience of the governor’s supporters, noting their impressive turnout despite harsh weather conditions and ongoing fasting.

Reiterating Governor Lawal’s commitment to the state, the SSG assured that the administration would continue to prioritize the welfare and interests of Zamfara residents.
