Operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested 10 suspected kidnappers in a joint operation with vigilantes and hunters.
The suspects were arrested during a raid at the Eko Uwaya forest, Ekpoma, in Esan West Local Government Area.
The Public Relations Officer of the Command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, who confirmed the arrests to newsmen in Benin City, said operatives of Ekpoma Division got credible information that some armed men have kidnapped a woman in the area.
Ikoedem said the middle aged woman who was kidnapped by the suspects was rescued unhurt during the raid.
She explained that the woman was taken deep into the forest, where they demanded for N10 million ransom.
Ikoedem stated that when the negotiation for ransom was ongoing, the police mobilised local vigilantes and hunters into the bush in search of the kidnapped woman.
She said the search paid off as the woman was rescued unhurt while 10 of the kidnappers were arrested in the forest.
The police spokesperson added that the rescued woman was able to identify some of the suspects as those that kidnapped her.
Ikoedem said all the arrested suspects have been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Unit of the state police command for profiling and prosecution.
