Osun court remands six over alleged assault, robbery 

An Osun Magistrate Court sitting in Ilesa has remanded six men over alleged offences bordering on conspiracy, assault, breach of peace, threat to life and robbery.

The defendants – Ukechukwu Uwanyi, Daniel Annes, Mtser Kenneth, Godwin Daniel, Abraham Attah and Philip Vihim – were arraigned before Magistrate A. Ayeni at Court 2, Ilesa, Osun State.

According to the charge sheet, another suspect, Chief Olabusoye Onigbogi, is currently at large.

The matter, titled Commissioner of Police versus Ukechukwu Uwanyi and five others, was brought before the court by the Police Prosecution Officer, Alhaji Keji Maru.

Presenting the case, the prosecutor told the court that the accused persons allegedly conspired to commit felony on March 19 at about 4:10 p.m. at the Igbo-Olomo area of Iloko-Ijesa within the Ilesa Magisterial District.

Maru stated that “the alleged conspiracy involved assault occasioning harm, which he said is punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun State, 2002”.

“The defendants attacked one Chief Alake Emmanuel, beating him with sticks, tearing his clothes and inflicting injuries on him,” the prosecutor told the court.

Alleging that the actions of the defendants caused a breach of peace, he noted that they reportedly used sticks and cutlasses during the attack.

According to the prosecution, “the accused persons also forcefully seized the victim’s Android phone and threatened to kill him while armed with dangerous weapons”.

Maru added that the defendants were equally accused of robbing the victim of ₦3,855,000, an offence punishable under Sections 383 and 390 of the Criminal Code.

Ruling on the matter, Magistrate Ayeni ordered that the defendants be remanded at the Ilesa Correctional Centre pending further hearing of the case.
