Manchester United captain, Bruno Fernandes, has insisted that the foul Bournemouth committed on teammate, Amad Diallo inside the 18-yard box during both sides’ Premier League clash was a penalty.
Recall that Man United were not awarded a penalty in their 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on Friday night.
Referee Stuart Attwell has pointed to the spot after Matheus Cunha was fouled in the area.
Fernandes stepped up to give the Red Devils a 1-0 lead, before Ryan Christie equalized for the hosts after Diallo had been fouled in the area, but Attwell waved play on.
The Red Devils restored their lead through James Hill’s own goal, but Bournemouth levelled from the spot after Harry Maguire was shown a straight red for a similar foul.
The Premier League Match Centre later revealed that Diallo was not awarded a penalty because the contact on him was not sufficient for a foul.
Speaking at his post-match interview, Fernandes was not pleased with the decision of the referee and VAR.
“I know it’s difficult for the referee to give two penalties to the same team,” Fernandes said.
“But I don’t understand why VAR doesn’t do anything. I don’t understand why one foul is a penalty, and the other isn’t.
“The foul on Amad is a penalty.”
