TMPD Deputy Commissioner Dhlamini Suspended After Adverse Madlanga Testimony

Pretoria – Tshwane Metro Police Department (TMPD) Deputy Commissioner Umashi Dhlamini has been placed on suspension after serious allegations were levelled against him at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry.

Earlier this week, during the testimony of suspended Gauteng Organised Crime Unit Sergeant Fannie Nkosi, allegations surfaced against the deputy commissioner related to governance failures and abuse of power in the City of Tshwane.

The commission’s evidence leader and testimony from Nkosi (who acted as an intermediary) detailed Dhlamini’s alleged involvement in tender manipulation and recruitment irregularities at the TMPD.

Announcing the suspension on Saturday, 21 March 2026, the TMPD said in light of the serious allegations leveled against Deputy Commissioner Dhlamini at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry this week, “he has requested to be placed on suspension with immediate effect”.

TMPD said Commissioner Yolande Faro considered Deputy Commissioner Dhlamini’s request and duly approved it.

Dhlamini was responsible for Support and Administration.

His suspension took effect on Friday, 20 March 2026. Deputy Commissioner Dhlamini’s name was mentioned in proceedings before the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry, where allegations relating to tender irregularities were raised.

“The suspension is intended to allow for a fair, thorough, and uninterrupted investigation into the allegations.

“The suspension is part of a standard risk-management measure to safeguard the integrity of the investigative process.

“It does not constitute a disciplinary sanction or imply any finding of guilt.”
