ActionSA MP Dereleen James Says She Will Lay Criminal Complaint Against Minister McKenzie

Cape Town – ActionSA Member of Parliament Dereleen James says she will report Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Gayton McKenzie to the police for alleged links to crime-accused Katiso “KT” Molefe.

MP James said following a series of intimidation tactics and threats, ”issued and spurred on by Minister McKenzie,” she will lay a complaint with the police in Cape Town on Tuesday, 24 March 2026.

She alleges that the series of intimidation tactics and threats arose ”directly from her probing during the Ad-hoc Committee into alleged links between the leadership of the Patriotic Alliance (PA) and alleged Big Five cartel member Katiso Molefe”.

McKenzie is the leader of the PA.

ActionSA said it views the “Minister’s repeated attempts to intimidate Dereleen James MP as a direct attack on an elected public representative carrying out her constitutional duties to expose criminal capture by drug cartels in South Africa and believes that such conduct must be addressed in accordance with the law”.

Earlier today, IOL reported that Minister McKenzie vehemently denies any connection to the alleged “Big Five” drug cartels amid serious accusations.

Referring to the minister’s Facebook page, IOL reported that Minister McKenzie denied knowing Matlala or any of the alleged individuals.

“I don’t know Cat Matlala. I’ve never met Cat Matlala. I don’t know KT (referring to murder accused Katiso Molefe). I don’t know what his surname is now,” wrote the minister.

“I don’t know these people. I don’t know these Big Five guys. I’ve never met them.”

“I’ve never had… I mean, for me to say that a photo can appear tomorrow, then I’ll be like a liar.

Vusimuzi “Cat”Matlala and Molefe have been named as part of the alleged “Big-Five” cartels, which is a group that is believed to be dealing in drug trafficking.
