Product Recall: NCC Recalls Ford Transit And Transit/Tourneo Custom Passenger Vehicles

Johannesburg – The National Consumer Commission (NCC) has announced the recall of certain Ford Transit and Transit/Tourneo Custom passenger vehicles.

The NCC on Thursday, 26 March 2026, stated that, as notified by Ford Motor Company of Southern Africa (Manufacturing) (Pty) Ltd, the recall affects certain 2022-2026 model year vehicles.

“The recall affects 582 vehicles that were made available for sale nationwide between 2021 and 2025,” the NCC said.

“According to the supplier, the affected vehicles may have an issue with the H7 AGM battery.

“The vehicles built with H7 AGM batteries may produce an acidic smell similar to that of rotten eggs inside the cabin, a hissing sound, or visible gas venting from the battery.

“In some cases, the seat area may feel unusually warm.”

The NCC said the supplier further indicated that increased temperatures may cause a reaction in the battery that produces hydrogen sulphide gas.

“Prolonged exposure to this gas may pose potential health risks to vehicle occupants,” warned the NCC.

“Owners of the affected vehicles are urged to take their vehicles to the nearest authorised dealership for repairs.

“The necessary repair work will be carried out at no cost to the consumer.”
