
A Magistratesā Court sitting in Isabo, Abeokuta, has remanded a 37-year-old nurse, Kehinde Adesanya, in prison over alleged conspiracy, attempted abortion, and the murder of Victoria Ariyo, a corps member in Ogun State.
Recall that 23-year-old Ariyo, who served under the Abeokuta South Local Government Area of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), reportedly died from pregnancy complications.
According to sources, she was involved in a romantic relationship with the Local Government Inspector (LGI) of the NYSC, Abass Olalekan, which eventually led to pregnancy and a termination that resulted in her death.
Olalekan was arrested and arraigned on Monday before the presiding Magistrate, A. K. Araba, on a two-count charge of conspiracy and attempt to procure abortion. He pleaded not guilty and was granted bail of N500,000.
DAILY POST reports that on Thursday, the nurse who allegedly supplied drugs to the deceased in an attempt to terminate the pregnancy was arraigned on a four-count charge bordering on conspiracy, attempt to procure abortion, and murder.
The charge sheet reads, āCOUNT I: That you KEHINDE ADESANYA āFā and others at large, between January to March 2026, at Ikereku area, Laderin, Abeokuta, in the Abeokuta Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony, to wit: abortion, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State of Nigeria, 2006.
āCOUNT II: That you KEHINDE ADESANYA āFā and others now at large, on the same date, time and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did unlawfully attempt to procure abortion by supplying Ariyo Victoria Olapeju āFā drugs, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 230 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State of Nigeria, 2006.
āCOUNT III: That you KEHINDE ADESANYA āFā and others at large, between January to March 2026, at Ikereku area, Laderin, Abeokuta, in the Abeokuta Magisterial District, did conspire among yourselves to commit felony, to wit: murder, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 324 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State of Nigeria, 2006.
āCOUNT IV: That you KEHINDE ADESANYA āFā and others at large, between January to March 2026, at Ikereku area, Laderin, Abeokuta, in the Abeokuta Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill one Ariyo Victoria Olapeju āFā, aged 23 years, by giving her drugs for abortion, and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State of Nigeria, 2006.ā
The Police Counsel, Solomon Babalola, moved a motion ex parte, praying the court for an order to remand the defendant.
Babalola asked for the defendantās remand for 60 days in the first instance at the Ibara Correctional Centre, pending advice from the State Director of Public Prosecution (DPP).
He told the court that the defendant committed the offences between January and March at Ikereku area, Laderin, Abeokuta, adding that the drugs allegedly led to Ariyoās death.
According to him, the offences contravene Sections 516, 230, 324, and 319 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun State, 2006.
The Magistrate, Mrs O.O. Sam-Obaleye, granted the application and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Ibara Correctional Centre, pending legal advice from the State DPP.
Sam-Obaleye adjourned the case until May 26 for mention.
