Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has likened those who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to Mr Peter Obi.
Wike said his reason is that Obi contested the 2023 presidential election on the platform of the Labour Party but instead of helping to fix the party during its internal crisis, left for another party.
Speaking at the National Convention by his own faction of the PDP on Sunday, Wike, said this showed that Obi lacked leadership traits.
“I liken those who defected from the PDP to the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party; they lack leadership traits,” Wike said.
“The former candidate of the Labour Party wanted to be president. The Labour Party gave him the platform, but when a crisis came in the Labour Party, and he was supposed to show leadership, he ran away because he could not solve
problems,” he said.
Wike’s faction of the PDP went ahead with their national convention on Sunday despite a case at the Supreme Court over the ruling of the Appeal Court that nulify the Oyo national convention by the Kabiru Turaki-led faction of the party backed by Governors Bala Mohammed and Seyi Makinde.
Wike has maintained that the PDP would not produce a presidential candidate for the 2027 general elections, but would support the second term of President Bola Tinubu who appointed him as the FCT Minister.
