National Police Day: Lagos Command reinforces community presence with walkathon

The Lagos State Police Command on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, continued activities marking the 2026 National Police Day with a walkathon aimed at promoting peace, boosting police visibility, and strengthening public trust and safety across the state.

According to a statement released by the Command, the exercise was organised in line with the theme of this year’s celebration, ‘Community Partnership: Building Trust’.

The walkathon began from the Command Headquarters in Ikeja GRA and moved along Mobolaji Bank Anthony Way in collaboration with the Police College, Ikeja, covering a distance of about four kilometres.

Senior officers of the Command, Area Commanders, as well as officers and men of the Lagos State Police Command, participated in the exercise.

The initiative was designed to show the presence of the Police within communities and reassure residents that officers remain accessible, responsive, and committed to ensuring public safety. It also highlighted the fitness level and operational readiness of personnel.

Speaking during the exercise, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Tijani Fatai, said the police remain close to the people and called on residents to support the Command in maintaining peace and security.

“The police are always within reach of the people and encouraged the public to support and partner with the Command in the collective effort to maintain peace and security,” the commissioner said.

The walkathon comes a day after the Command kicked off the 2026 National Police Day celebrations with community-based activities, including a sanitation exercise across fourteen Area Commands and a free medical outreach at Computer Village in Ikeja.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Adebisi, the outreach provided free medical check-ups and services such as health talks, medical counselling, blood pressure and blood sugar tests, Hepatitis B and C screenings, eye examinations, retroviral screening, and free drug administration.

The CP urged members of the public to report their complaints and concerns, assuring them that the Police are willing, capable, and ready to address issues professionally and promptly, while stressing that policing with humility and integrity remains the Command’s guiding principle.
