Maku dumps PDP, points to party crisis, pressure from supportersĀ

Former Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, has formally resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, citing internal challenges and mounting pressure from his political base.

In a resignation letter dated March 11, 2026, and addressed to the PDP chairman of his Wakama Ward in Nasarawa Eggon Local Government Area, Maku said his decision takes immediate effect.

The former minister, popularly known as ā€˜Mutumin Kirki’, attributed his exit to the prolonged crisis within the party and what he described as the collective desire of his supporters to pursue a new political direction.

According to him, the move followed extensive consultations with family members, political allies, traditional rulers, community leaders, and loyal supporters across his structure.

Maku, who previously served as Commissioner and later Deputy Governor of Nasarawa State between 1999 and 2007, described the decision as difficult but necessary for his political future and that of his followers.

He, however, expressed gratitude to the PDP for the opportunities and support he received during his years in the party, while reaffirming his commitment to shared ideals and continued service to the people.
