Kano Govt rejects ex-commissioner Sagagi’s allegations over Governor Yusuf’s defection

The Kano State Government has dismissed claims by a former Commissioner for Investment, Commerce and Industry, Shehu Wada Sagagi, describing his comments on Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s political move as false and baseless.

In a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, on Friday, the government said Sagagi’s allegation that the governor defected out of fear of not securing a second-term ticket under the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) was misleading and unfounded.

The statement said the claim was a deliberate attempt to misinform the public and distort the genuine intentions behind the governor’s decision.

According to the government, the political realignment of Governor Yusuf was not driven by fear, but by the need to promote peace, unity, and development in Kano State.

It stated that the decision was taken in the overriding interest of peace, unity, and sustainable development of the state.

He added that it was a strategic move to strengthen collaboration and ensure that the benefits of governance reach all residents.

The government also rejected the suggestion that the governor was worried about his political future, insisting that such claims ignore his strong political standing, wide acceptance, and proven track record of service delivery.

It further noted that the administration remains committed to its “Kano First” agenda, which focuses on the welfare of the people, infrastructure development, economic growth, and social stability.

“We urge the public to disregard the statement as it does not reflect the true state of affairs,” the government said.

It added that the present administration would not be distracted by what it described as baseless claims and the actions of unpatriotic elements, but would continue to deliver on its mandate to the people of Kano State.
