Adamawa people will decide my successor – Governor Fintiri

Governor Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa State says the decision on who succeeds him will be made by the people.

Dismissing speculation about endorsing a particular governorship aspirant ahead of the 2027 elections, Fintiri declared that the decision lies solely in the hands of the electorate.

Speaking during a high-level stakeholders’ meeting at the Government House in Yola, Fintiri emphasised that he remains neutral in the unfolding political contest.

“The power to choose leaders rests with the people. No one will decide for them,” the governor said, reiterating that he is not throwing his weight behind any individual seeking his office.

He encouraged all aspirants to return to the grassroots and earn their mandate through genuine engagement.

“Democratic leadership cannot be imposed but must be freely given by the citizens,” he said, further assuring party members and governorship aspirants of a fair process.

DAILY POST reports that Fintiri had previously stated that only a grassroots politician would be acceptable as his successor.

In recent months, he has been widely speculated to favour former Speaker and now senator representing the Central Zone, Aminu Iya Abbas, as his preferred successor.

It remains to be seen what the assurances he has just given will amount to.
