A somber mood has engulfed Jato Aka in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State following the reported death of an internally displaced person, Mr. Terzungwe Orbam, under tragic circumstances.
The deceased was said to have fled from Ikyoawen in Turan, a community that has experienced persistent insecurity in recent times.
According to eyewitness accounts, Orbam allegedly bought a toxic chemical from an agrochemical shop in Jato Aka and consumed it right outside the premises.
He reportedly collapsed moments after taking the substance and died before any medical help could reach him.
His body has since been taken to a mortuary, as the incident continues to leave residents shocked and deeply concerned.
Locals who reacted to the development described it as heartbreaking, noting that the reasons behind his actions remain unknown.
āThis is very painful. Nobody seems to understand what he was going through,ā a local resident said.
As of the time of filing this report, authorities have yet to release any official statement.
