Troops repel attacks, rescue abducted victims in Zamfara

Troops under Operation Hadarin Daji have responded to a series of attacks in different parts of Zamfara State, rescuing some victims and recovering property.

The development was contained in a post shared on Monday by security analyst, Zagazola Makama.

According to security sources cited in the post shared on X, the incidents happened on April 12 across Gummi, Bukuyyum and Maru local government areas.

“At about 10:00 a.m., troops responded to an attack on Danzamau village in Gummi LGA, where two civilians were abducted while traveling. Their vehicle was later recovered and handed over to community leaders.”

Shortly after, troops also responded to another attack at Tungan Sakki village in Bukuyyum LGA.

However, they were unable to reach the area due to a river, and reports indicated that nine people were abducted.

In another incident around 2:00 a.m., armed men attacked Maru town in Maru LGA, killing one person and abducting two others before escaping.

Troops, supported by local vigilantes and reinforcements from a nearby base, moved into the area but the attackers had already fled.

In a separate operation later that night, troops responded to a distress call from the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Gummi, where three of its personnel were abducted during an operation.

Security sources said troops were able to rescue two of the victims, who were injured, while one suspected attacker was arrested.

“The injured victims were taken for medical treatment, while one suspect was apprehended during the operation,” the source told Makama.

Authorities said operations are ongoing to track down the attackers and improve security across affected communities in the state.
