IBO World Title: Nhlanhla ‘Kilimanjaro’ Tyira Takes On Nhlanganipho Kunene

KuGompo City (formerly East London) – Nhlanhla “Kilimanjaro” Tyira is going to fight undefeated Nhlanganipho Kunene for the vacant IBO World Minimumweight Title.

The fight scheduled for 23 May 2026 is an undercard for the highly anticipated boxing showcase “The Last Sting of the Wasp.”

Ground Up Sports Promotion announced on Sunday, 19 April 2026, that the fight will take place at the iconic Jan Smuts Stadium in KuGompo, Eastern Cape.

“As part of our commitment to returning Tyira to the global stage and re-establishing his position among boxing’s elite, we are pleased to announce that he will compete for the vacant IBO World Minimumweight Title,” said Loyiso Magqaza of Ground Up Sports Promotion.

“Tyira is set to face the highly capable and undefeated Nhlanganipho Kunene (8 – 0) in what promises to be a thrilling contest between two deserving contenders.

“Both athletes have demonstrated exceptional discipline, consistency, and performance – earning their rightful place in this world title bout.”

Magqaza added: “This is exactly the kind of fight that defines careers and elevates fighters onto the global stage.

“Nhlanhla Tyira has been working tirelessly behind the scenes, and this opportunity is not by chance; it’s earned.”

Magqaza said an undefeated record speaks volumes, and that’s what makes this matchup so compelling.

“We are fully aware of the challenge that Nhlanganipho Kunene brings into this fight.

“This is not just a title fight – it’s a true test between two hungry, deserving warriors.”

Magqaza said the “Last Sting of the Wasp” will be headlined by the farewell bout of Xolisani “Nomeva” Ndongeni, who steps into the ring for the final time in his professional career against Sanele Msimanga, marking a historic and emotional night for South African boxing.

“Events like The Last Sting of the Wasp are about legacy, pride, and creating moments that live beyond the ring,” said Magqaza.

“With Tyira fighting for a world title and Ndongeni closing his career in a headline bout, we are delivering a night that South African boxing will remember for years to come.”
