Abia State Council of the Nigeria Union Journalists, NUJ, has expressed concern over the rising cases of road accidents in Umuahia, Aba and highways within the State.
The NUJ, which urged the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, and sister agencies to upscale their responsibilities on the roads, advised the agencies to control overspeeding and other dangerous conducts by motorists.
In a communique released after their monthly congress in Umuahia, the journalists appealed to drivers to take road safety rules and regulations very seriously by obeying signs.
The communique which was signed by Abia NUJ Chairman, Chidi Asonye and the Secretary, Ikechukwu Onuegbu, raised concern about the rising cases of crime in Umuahia, Aba and some other parts of the State, and urged the State government and security agencies to nip crime in the bud before it happens.
They further advised the residents of Abia to see security as everyoneās responsibility by reporting suspicious activities to security agencies.
The journalists reiterated their determination to function as watchdog of the society.
