The department of Koumpentoum in the region of Tamba (East) hosted on Friday 21 March the official ceremony of the launch of the programme of the Solidarity Productive Cooperatives (CPS) presided by the Premier Ousmane Sonko. This programme, which aims at inclusive transformation, will promote the creation of an ecosystem conducive to the development of micro and medium-sized enterprises. The CPS are part of the Programme d’appui aux acteurs de l’économie sociale et solidaire (Progress) and “they occupy a place of choice in the national development strategy 2025-2029”, according to Ousmane Sonko. They are considered as concrete solutions to combat unemployment and the precariousness affecting a large part of the population, in particular young people. These cooperatives are based on an innovative economic model aimed at revitalizing the territories and offering sustainable future prospects. In the context of a social and solidarity economy (Ess), a sector that has long been neglected despite its immense potential, these cooperatives will thus group local actors around various productive activities, with the exception of agriculture where agricultural cooperatives already exist. Conscious that the social and solidarity economy enables actors to be sufficiently equipped to be competitive by having internal and external mechanisms that promote the creation of wealth through decent and sustainable employment, the Government of Senegal through the Ministry of Microfinance and the Social and Solidarity Economy (MMESS) has implemented PROGRESS. “This project aims at formalising, framing and providing technical support to the actors of the social and solidarity economy in order to exploit the economic potential of the territories”, Sonko said.
