Police dissolves tactical teams in RiversĀ

The Police Command in Rivers State has dissolved its tactical teams as part of efforts to enhance efficiency and professionalism in its operations.

The command’s spokesperson, ASP Blessing Agabe, disclosed this to journalists in Port Harcourt on Wednesday, noting that the move followed a directive by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu.

Agabe explained that the disbanded tactical teams have now been consolidated into a newly created unit known as the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).

ā€œThe VCRU is mandated to respond swiftly and decisively to incidents of violent crime, while adhering to established rules of engagement and respect for fundamental human rights,ā€ she said.

She further stated that the restructuring is designed to improve operational coordination and enhance public trust in policing across the state.

Agabe also quoted the Commissioner of Police in Rivers, CP Olugbenga Adepoju, as cautioning officers against extortion, abuse of office, and other forms of misconduct.

ā€œAny violation of the Nigeria Police Force Code of Conduct will attract disciplinary action,ā€ Adepoju said.

He reassured residents of the command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, urging the public to support law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities and misconduct.

The commissioner reiterated the command’s resolve to promote effective, accountable, and people-centred policing throughout the state.
