Osun govt introduces security fund, urges residents, firms to support initiative

The Osun State Government has appealed for wider public and private sector support following the introduction of a security intervention fund aimed at strengthening safety across the state.

The call was made by the Secretary to the State Government Teslim Igbalaye, during the unveiling of the Osun State Security Trust Fund in Osogbo.

Speaking at the event, Igbalaye said maintaining security in the state requires collective effort, stressing that government alone cannot shoulder the responsibility.

“This goes beyond a call for support; it is a call to shared responsibility,” he said, urging individuals and organisations to contribute towards the initiative.

He explained that the fund is structured to improve the capacity of security agencies through the provision of operational tools, including patrol vehicles, communication gadgets and surveillance systems to enhance response time and intelligence gathering.

Igbalaye also acknowledged the role of Governor Ademola Adeleke in driving the initiative, noting that it aligns with efforts to sustain peace and stability in the state.

According to him, Osun has maintained a relatively calm security environment due to ongoing collaboration between the government and security agencies, but warned that sustaining such stability requires continuous support from stakeholders.

He commended security personnel for their efforts in safeguarding communities, describing their role as critical despite the challenges they face.

On accountability, the SSG assured that contributions to the fund would be properly managed, adding that transparency would guide its implementation.

He further called on corporate bodies, financial institutions, community groups and residents to support the initiative, noting that contributions of any scale would make a difference in strengthening security across the state.

The launch of the fund, he added, is part of broader measures to improve safety and reinforce public confidence in the state’s security framework.
