Durban: Saturday Afternoon Single-Car Crash Along M4 Leaves 2 Dead

Durban – Two people have died in a single-car crash along the M4 South Bound near Walter Gilbert Road.

ALS Paramedics are currently on the scene of the crash, which occurred in the afternoon on Saturday, 2 May 2026.

Spokesperson Garrith Jamieson said ALS Paramedics responded to calls for help around 3 pm.

“Paramedics arrived on the scene to find chaos and carnage.

“They found that a single vehicle with five occupants  had somehow lost control and collided with a tree in the centre median,” Jamieson said.

The driver and front seat passenger were entrapped in the wreckage, and the Ethekweni Fire Department had to use the Jaws of Life to cut them free.

“The two men believed to be in their 20s had sustained major injuries, and unfortunately, there was nothing paramedics could do for them, and they were declared deceased on the scene,” Jamieson said.

Three other occupants, all of them men in their 20s, sustained serious injuries.

Advanced Life Support paramedics worked to stabilise them on the scene before transporting them to nearby hospitals for further care that they required.

“One patient had sustained critical injuries and was placed on a ventilator on the scene,” Jamieson said.

South African Police Service officers and Metro police were in attendance.
