Communal clash in Niger: One dead, houses burnt in Munya LGA – Police

The Niger State Police Command has confirmed a violent communal clash in Gambwa village, via Fuka in Munya Local Government Area, which resulted in the death of one person and destruction of property.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, the incident occurred on April 30, 2026, following a distress call received at about 12:30 p.m. regarding unrest in the community.

He explained that police operatives attached to Gwada Division were immediately deployed to the scene, where they discovered that several settlements had been set ablaze by angry youths, leading to the destruction of huts, houses, and other valuables.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the violence was a reprisal attack stemming from a dispute earlier that same day, around 9:30 a.m., between two individuals Doza Hussaini, 18, and Nasiru Tukur, 25 over a piece of farmland near a Fulani settlement.

The disagreement reportedly escalated into a physical confrontation, during which Doza contacted his father, Hussaini Turaki, 35, for support.

In the ensuing clash, Hussaini allegedly inflicted a cut on Nasiru, while Nasiru in turn attacked Hussaini’s brother, Safē Turaki, 45, leaving him with a severe injury.

Safē Turaki was rushed to a clinic in Gwada but was later confirmed dead.

Other injured victims were taken to nearby medical facilities for treatment.

The police spokesperson added that security personnel have since restored normalcy in the area, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend all those involved in the violence.

He assured that further developments on the incident would be communicated as investigations continue.
