An All Progressives Congress, APC, senatorial aspirant for the Kebbi Central District, Kabir Sani Giant, has rejected a proposed consensus arrangement for the party’s senatorial ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.
Speaking with journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday, Giant said he declined to sign a document presented to him by a consensus committee set up by the state government.
According to him, the document suggested that he had withdrawn from the senatorial race, a claim he denied.
He said he requested time to consult his lawyer over the content and implications of the form before refusing to sign it.
The aspirant maintained that the best option was for all contenders to participate in direct primary elections if consensus could not be reached.
Giant said he was prepared to contest against Senator Adamu Aliero in the party’s primary election and would accept the outcome of the process regardless of the result.
He also denied claims that former Kebbi State Governor, Senator Atiku Bagudu, was sponsoring his ambition.
According to him, although Bagudu is his relation and offered prayers for his success, his supporters and constituents were responsible for encouraging him to contest for the Senate seat.
The APC aspirant further pledged loyalty to the party, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris, insisting that he remained committed to the party despite disagreements over the consensus arrangement.
