Residents of Oke Ayo Estate, Elere, in Ede North Local Government Area of Osun State have pledged to support only the political party that provides the community with a transformer ahead of the forthcoming governorship election.
The residents made their position known on Saturday while receiving delegates of the Accord during their monthly meeting.
Speaking on behalf of the community, Chairman Afolabi Maxwell commended the administration of Ademola Adeleke for ensuring that dividends of democracy reach the grassroots.
He, however, lamented the continued absence of a transformer in the community, noting that residents had lived without one for more than four years.
Maxwell recalled several unsuccessful attempts by previous community leaders to secure a transformer through notable individuals, including Chief Mrs Dupe Adeleke-Sanni and Alhaji Kazeem Akinleye, as well as federal lawmakers representing the area.
“I am saying it publicly for everyone to hear, residents of Oke Ayo Estate, Elere will vote for any political party that provides a fully installed transformer before the August 15 governorship election,” he said.
Responding, the Chairman of the Accord in Elere, Mr Saheed Ajibola, thanked residents for recognising the efforts of Governor Adeleke in the community.
Ajibola assured them that their request would be communicated to the governor and other relevant authorities, describing electricity supply as a priority need.
He also appreciated the community’s support during the 2022 governorship election and appealed for continued backing for the governor’s re-election bid.
Meanwhile, a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Nurein Raji-Lawal, had earlier visited the community and promised to facilitate the provision of a transformer before the election.
