All Kwankwaso’s peace overtures to Gov Yusuf were rejected — Ex-Chief of Staff, Sagagi

A former Chief of Staff to the Kano State Government, Shehu Wada Sagagi, has alleged that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf frustrated repeated efforts to reconcile with the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Wada Sagagi, in an exclusive interview with a local radio station, explained the lingering political tension between the governor and his political mentor.

According to him, the reconciliation process began at the early stage of the misunderstanding after concerns emerged that the dispute could deepen within the ruling political bloc in Kano State.

He said Kwankwaso had expressed readiness for peace and directed him to engage Governor Yusuf in order to understand the grievances behind the growing rift.

“I met the governor and conveyed Kwankwaso’s message to him. He personally fixed a date for a reconciliation meeting, but later failed to honour it,” Sagagi said during the interview.

The former aide further claimed that he made additional efforts to remind the governor about the proposed peace meeting, but alleged that his calls and messages were ignored.

“I reached out more than once to ensure the meeting held, but he stopped responding to my messages. At that point, the reconciliation effort could not move forward,” he added.

Sagagi maintained that Kwankwaso remained open to dialogue throughout the process, insisting that several opportunities were created to resolve the differences quietly.

Sagagi’s outburst is expected to fuel fresh debate over the reported cracks within Kano’s dominant political structure, especially amid speculations surrounding the relationship between Governor Yusuf and Kwankwaso in recent months.

However, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, spokesperson to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, was not immediately available for comment on the issues raised by Sagagi as of press time.
