​CAN U20 2025: Côte d’Ivoire withdraws from the organization a few weeks after the coup d’envoi 

  Coup de tonnerre a quelques semaines du lancement de la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations U20 2025. (African Cup of Nations U20 2025) This is the first edition of the Africa Cup of Nations, which is scheduled to be held in South Africa in 2025. Côte d’Ivoire, designated by the Confédération Africaine de Football (CAF) to host the competition from 26 April to 18 May, has officially announced its withdrawal. According to our confrères de Sportnewsafrica, the Fédération Ivoirienne de Football (FIF) has informed in a communiqué published this Tuesday 25 March 2025, the CAF of the decision of the Ivorian government to renounce to the organization of the competition. “The President Yacine Idriss Diallo, President of the FIF and the COCAN U20, hereby informs you that, by official mail, the Government has notified the Fédération Ivoirienne de Football (FIF) of the withdrawal of Côte d’Ivoire as the host country of the African Cup of Nations U20. In accordance with the instructions of the President of the FIF, the Executive Director transmitted this information to the Secretary General of the CAF on Tuesday 25 March 2025. The President wishes to express his deep gratitude to everyone for their commitment and the work accomplished in the framework of the organization of this competition”, the communiqué said. This sudden withdrawal places the CAF in a delicate situation, as it remains only a few weeks before the start of the competition. The governing body of African football must find a new host country urgently in order to ensure the smooth running of the tournament.
