Plateau 2027: Gov. Mutfwang records landslide victory to clinch APC ticket 

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, recorded a landslide victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary by polling an unprecedented 233,335 votes to defeat his challenger, Yilchini Jan Bida, who garnered 3,070 votes across the 17 Local Government Areas of the state. 

The result which was officially announced on Friday night at the State APC Secretariat in Jos by the Chairman of the APC Committee for the Plateau State House of Assembly and Governorship Primary Election, Fidelis Mnyim Bemse, showed that Mutfwang defeated Bida in all the wards and units across the state.

According to Bemse, the primary election recorded a total of 240,832 registered voters with 236,405 votes cast during the exercise.

The returning officer noted that the sitting governor recorded overwhelming victories in several local government areas including his Mangu which is his home council, Jos North, Kanke where Bida hails from, Kanam, Jos South, Shendam, Langtang North and Wase.

Giving a further breakdown of the primary election results, Bemse said Mutfwang secured 26,652 votes against Bida’s 68 votes in

Jos North LGA, while in Mangu LGA, he polled 28,095 votes compared to Bida’s 46 votes.

Similarly, the governor scored 19,509 votes in Kanam LGA asa against Bida’s 119 votes, while in Shendam LGA, Mutfwang polled 17,208 votes while Bida got 389 votes.

The retired Naval officer however, recorded his strongest showing in Qua’an Pan and Kanke LGAs where he secured 687 votes and 481 votes respectively.

While declaring the final result, Bemse said Mutfwang had satisfied all constitutional requirements of the party and emerged with the highest number of valid votes cast during the exercise.

“Therefore, Caleb Mutfwang, having satisfied the requirements of the APC constitutional guidelines and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner of the primary election and returned elected,” the returning officer announced.

With the announcement, Gov. Mutfwang becomes the official governorship candidate of the APC in Plateau State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
