The widow of a teacher allegedly killed during the recent attack on schools in Oyo State has appealed to the government and security agencies to recover her husband’s remains for burial.
Mrs Mary Oyedokun made the appeal after her husband, Mr Michael Oyedokun, a teacher at Community High School, Ahoro-Esiele, was abducted alongside several teachers and students during coordinated attacks in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.
The attacks reportedly affected Community High School, L.A. Primary School, Esiele, and Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, with between 46 and 48 persons, including pupils and teachers, kidnapped by the attackers.
Public outrage followed after a video allegedly showing the killing of Mr Oyedokun surfaced online and circulated widely on social media.
The incident drew condemnation from celebrities, civil society organisations and members of the public, many of whom demanded stronger security measures and swift action against those responsible.
In another video obtained on Friday, Mrs Oyedokun, while speaking emotionally in Yoruba, pleaded with the Federal Government to help retrieve her husband’s body so he could be given a proper burial.
“I am begging the government to please recover the body of my husband. I want him to have a burial site for future reference,” she said.
Meanwhile, security agencies have continued rescue operations aimed at securing the release of the remaining abducted victims.
Oyo State Governor had earlier assured residents that both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies were being deployed to ensure the safe rescue of those still in captivity.
President Bila Ahmed Tinubu also condemned the killing, describing the act as barbaric, while assuring Nigerians that security operatives were intensifying efforts to rescue the captives and apprehend those behind the attack.
