Idris Elba Recognized as Prominent Ga Citizen, Meets Prez Mahama to Discuss Construction of Ultra-modern Film and Creative District in Osu  

British-Ghanaian actor, Idris Elba, met with President John Dramani Mahama to discuss his plans for the construction of a film village in Accra.

The meeting which took place at the Jubilee House, was to present a proposal for a private-government partnership to construct the film ‘precinct’, as Elba called it, intended to educate and train young Ghanaian creatives in the sector and to produce world-class films from the Ghanaian market for international consumption.

Idris Elba and his team presented a rendering of the proposed site, which would be located near the Osu (formerly Christianborg) Castle close to the city center.

To be called the Arts Heritage District, Elba noted it would provide training and employment to young Ghanaians and bring a boost to the local film industry.

He called for the establishment of clear guidelines and policies to ensure Ghana meets international best practices which would enable him bring foreign investments onto the scene.

President Mahama lauded the idea and presented counter-proposals to improve it to benefit the most people.

Prior to his meeting with the President, Elba paid a visit to the Ga Mantse, Nii Tackie Teiko Tsuru II. He was named a prominent member of the Ga State and presented his ideas for the arts district, which would be situated on Accra land, to the monarch.
