
About 112 junior police officers, comprising thirty 30 Corporals and 82 Constables, on Friday successfully completed an intensive two-week Combat Operations Training Programme in Kwara State.
A statement by the spokesperson of the command, SP Adetoun Ejire Adeyemi in Ilorin on Friday said the training programme marked another milestone in the ongoing drive by the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, to build a more professional, combat-ready, and operationally effective police force.
“The training programme, conducted at the Police Training School, Ilorin, was designed to sharpen the tactical capabilities of rank-and-file personnel through rigorous practical and classroom-based instruction,” he said.
She said participants received specialized training in tactical firearm handling, combat craft, rescue operations, tactical movement, rules of engagement, use of force, ambush and counter-ambush techniques, officer safety, and other contemporary policing strategies required to effectively address emerging security threats.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the state Commissioner of Police, Adekimi Ojo, expressed satisfaction with the remarkable improvement, discipline, and coordination displayed by the officers throughout the training period.
He noted that the enhanced tactical proficiency demonstrated by the participants reflects the value of continuous professional development and operational preparedness in modern policing.
Ojo further stated that the training aligns with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police to institutionalize intelligence-led policing, improve operational effectiveness, and strengthen the capacity of personnel to respond decisively to security challenges.
He charged the officers to apply the knowledge and skills acquired in the course of the training towards enhancing public safety and combating crime across the state.
