
Officers of the Violent Crimes Response Unit, VCRU, of Abia State Command, has apprehended a man seen in a viral video punching a woman in the face.
The man, believed to be from Abia North part of Abia State, was seen in the video, pummelling the woman with hard blows, and was threatening to kill her, at Ogbo Hill area of Aba.
In the video, the woman was also seen raising her hands appealing for mercy and struggling for help while the man kept yelling at her as he landed more blows on her face.
Audio from the video captured the man repeatedly yelling “Ichoro mgbue gi, Ichoro inwu”, meaning “do you want me to kill you? Do you want to die?”
But reacting to the outrage generated by the video, the Violent Crimes Response Unit of Abia State Police led by CSP Emeka Amanchukwu, arrested the suspect on Saturday.
The suspect was tracked to his location by the police officers and is currently in detention.
Reacting to the development, the Peoples Democratic Candidate for Aba Central Constituency for the 2027 election, Anastasia Odochi Uchenna condemned the assault on the woman, describing it as horrorible.
She called for prosecution of the arrested suspect and equally appealed to the Abia State government and other concerned agencies to provide adequate medical treatment for the victim.
When contacted by DAILY POST, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO of Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka said investigation is ongoing on the matter.
