Nigerian troops have rescued five kidnapped victims after overrunning a suspected terrorist camp in Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State.
According to security sources, the operation was carried out by troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, after they received intelligence that armed terrorists riding about 10 motorcycles were moving from Kawaye towards Tungan Kudaduku.
According to Zagazola Makama, a security reporter on X, the troops quickly moved to the area and confronted the gunmen.
During the operation, the soldiers engaged the fleeing terrorists in a gun battle, forcing them to abandon the camp and flee into the surrounding bush.
A search of the camp led to the rescue of five kidnapped victims, who were found unharmed.
The victims are currently receiving care before being reunited with their families.
Military authorities said troops have continued to maintain a strong presence in the area to prevent the terrorists from returning.
The authorities added that the operation is part of the ongoing offensive by Operation Fansan Yamma to dismantle terrorist hideouts and improve security across Zamfara and other states in the North-West.
