Pick n Pay Clothing Launches First Winter Collection With Gavin Rajah

Johannesburg – Pick n Pay Clothing is expanding its successful collaboration with acclaimed South African designer Gavin Rajah into winter for the first time, with the launch of a unisex knitwear collection that brings luxury, versatility and timeless style to everyday wardrobes.

The collection marks the ninth release in the retailer’s long-running partnership with Rajah, which continues to redefine accessible designer fashion for South Africans, without compromising on creativity.

“Designer fashion has traditionally been associated with exclusivity, but South Africans are increasingly looking for beautifully designed pieces that are both aspirational and attainable,” says Hazel Pillay, Executive: Pick n Pay Clothing.

“With nine collections, we’ve shown that designer fashion doesn’t have to come with a designer price tag.”  

The trans-seasonal collection is what Rajah describes as “a study in relaxed living, quiet luxury and effortless accessibility.”

Designed for both men and women, the range combines soft textures, considered proportions and relaxed silhouettes with refined craftsmanship, creating versatile pieces designed to be worn and loved well beyond a single season.

For Rajah, accessibility should never come at the expense of exceptional design.

“High fashion doesn’t always have to be dramatic or inaccessible. It can be found in proportion, texture, finish and the way a garment makes someone feel.

“With this collection, the aim was to bring a designer sensibility into an accessible space without losing the feeling of luxury.”

He says the collection was created for people who want elevated wardrobe staples that are as comfortable as they are versatile.

“It is for the customer who appreciates beautiful texture, considered proportions and relaxed silhouettes, but also wants pieces that work in real life.

“I want people to feel that they are wearing something soft, modern and beautifully considered, without it feeling precious or removed from everyday life.”

The collection includes tees, joggers, cardigans, hoodies, shackets and bomber jackets, with prices ranging from R149.99 to R499.99, making Gavin Rajah’s signature design aesthetic accessible to a wider audience.

Designed without the traditional boundaries of menswear and womenswear, the collection embraces individuality, versatility and shared wardrobes.

“It is not designed around a narrow idea of gender. It is for men and women who want versatile pieces they can style their own way.

“The customer is modern, discerning, and values quality, but also understands the beauty of simplicity.”

The collection has been created to layer effortlessly across seasons.

The knitwear can be worn tonally for a refined monochromatic look or paired with denim, tailored trousers, wide-leg pants or skirts.

“For women, the pieces can be styled with a beautiful coat, a long skirt, boots or a clean sneaker for a more relaxed mood.

“For men, they work well with tailored trousers, chinos or relaxed denim.

“The key is to keep the styling uncomplicated. Let the texture and silhouette do the work.”

Rajah also embraces the idea of shared wardrobes. “Because the collection is unisex, I like the idea of clothes that move between people, occasions and seasons.

Reflecting a more thoughtful approach to fashion, the collection focuses on timeless, trans-seasonal design rather than trend-driven consumption.

“The idea isn’t to create clothing that’s worn once. It’s to create pieces that become part of how people live,” says Rajah.

The knitwear collection marks the ninth collaboration between Rajah and Pick n Pay Clothing, with the creative partnership set to continue later this year with the launch of an extended gifting collection and the Resort Collection for Summer 2026.

Rajah is also the co-founder of Pick n Pay Clothing’s Futurewear initiative, which has spent the past six years making designer fashion more accessible while investing in South Africa’s next generation of creative talent.

The programme mentors emerging designers to develop commercially viable collections, helping them build sustainable businesses while giving customers access to exclusive, locally designed collections at affordable prices.
