A report by the South African Human Rights Commission exposed extreme sewage contamination and wastewater infrastructure failures across three Eastern Cape municipalities, with Buffalo City’s West Bank Wastewater Treatment Facility recording E. coli levels about 6 000 times higher than safe recreational water limits.
