FAAN makes U-turn, refutes fire outbreak at Lagos airportĀ 

The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria, FAAN, has issued a fresh update on the reported fire incident at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos.

A statement by the FAAN’s Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, said there was no fire at the terminal.

According to the statement, the smoke observed was due to the discharge of the terminal’s FM-200 fire suppression system.

It added that the cause of the incident was under investigation, adding that normal operations have begun at the airport.

ā€œFurther to our earlier advisory regarding the incident at Terminal 2 of the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria,Ā Ā wishes to provide the following update

ā€œPreliminary findings indicate that there was no fire at the terminal. The smoke observed within the affected area resulted from the discharge of the terminal’s FM-200 fire suppression system.

ā€œThe reason for the activation of the fire suppression system is currently being investigated. Normal operating operations have since resumed at the terminal.

ā€œWhile detailed investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of the incident. FAAN appreciates the understanding and cooperation of passengers, airlines, airport users, and all stakeholders, and reiterates its commitment to the safety and security of all airport operations,ā€ the statement said.
