Dr. Michael L. Lomax, president and CEO of UNCF, is awarded the 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award from the GSV. Dr. Michael L. Lomax, president and CEO, UNCF, was honored April 9 with the exclusive GSV 2025 Lifetime Achievement Award at the ASU+GSV Summit in San Diego, one of the world’s leading gatherings of training, development, and affect. Lomax joins the ranks of famous explorers. Dr. Lomax joins a distinguished group of visionaries in education who have completely altered the scenery of learning and chance. Celebrities honored include Bill Milliken, the leader of Communities In Schools, Luis von Ahn, co-founder of Duolingo, Marian Wright Edelman, the creator of the Children’s Defense Fund, Geoffrey Canada, the leader of Harlem Children’s Zone, Wendy Kopp, the founder of Teach For America, and Bill Milliken, the founder of Communities In Schools. Dr. Lomax is not only a hero for higher education, but a push for change, according to Chris Howard, executive vice president and chief operating officer at Arizona State University. His administration has opened doors for hundreds of thousands of kids, particularly those who have previously been denied opportunities. This award recognizes a lifetime of service to justice, superiority, and the power of training to transform lives, according to Dr. Lomax’s statement:” To be included among such a profound lineage of education pioneers is heartbreaking. I accept this award as a party of the collective efforts of every scholar, every companion, and every organization that dared to believe in the power of education to conquer, promote, and change. We have pushed the limits and reimagined the possibilities that lie ahead. Under Dr. Lomax’s creative authority, UNCF has raised more than$ 4 billion, enabling more than 150, 000 individuals to earn degrees and build successful careers. The 400+ award programs he oversees gain over 50, 000 students each year. Dr. Lomax has also been a strong advocate for HBCUs by founding the UNCF Institute for Capacity Building to help its 37 member institutions succeed as profitable, self-sustaining companies. Dr. Lomax served as the five leader of Dillard University prior to his career at UNCF, where he significantly increased the number of students and alumni relationship. He founded the state’s Office of Cultural Affairs and the Fulton County Arts Council, and he left an enduring legacy on Atlanta’s civic and cultural life. Prior to that, he was a political engineer in Atlanta. Dr. Lomax is still serving on a number of influental sheets, including the KIPP Foundation, Teach For America, Cengage Group, Handshake, and the Studio Museum in Harlem. He was appointed by President George W. Bush to the President’s Board of Advisors on HBCUs and is a founding member of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture. This Lifetime Achievement Award honors a tradition that is not only one of authority but also one of perception, service, and a persistent belief in the power of schooling to unlock the potential of each young mind.
