SPAR Proteas Team Named Ahead Of Africa Netball Cup

Pretoria – Netball South Africa has finalised the SPAR Proteas team for the 2026 Africa Netball Cup.

The tournament will be held in Nairobi, Kenya from 19th to 26th September 2026.

South Africa is the defending champion after winning the title in both the men’s and women’s sections last year.

Following the team’s recent participation at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, SPAR Proteas Head Coach Jenny van Dyk has made some changes to the team for the tournament, with some senior players being rested.

“The Africa Cup provides our SPAR Proteas head coach with an opportunity to rotate her squad and build depth and capacity within the team,” said Mami Diale, Netball South Africa President.

“We have contracted seventeen players with ten more as training partners.

“If ever there was an opportune time for the coach to assess the capabilities of other players, this is it.

“We have full confidence in the coach and the team selected. We believe they will perform well and make us proud.

“South Africa enters this tournament as defending champions, and we intend to retain our title upon return.

“As a federation, we have provided the team with all the necessary support and are confident in their success.”

The selected players for the 2026 Africa Netball Cup are:

• Nonsikelelo Mazibuko
• Kamogelo Maseko
• Owethu Ngubane
• Kyla Dames
• Karla Victor
• Refiloe Nketsa
• Sanmarie Visser
• Thulisile Maduna
• Nozipho Ntshangase
• Juanita van Tonder
• Tinita van Dyk

Three players have been included in the squad as non-travelling reserves: Sanelisiwe Ntobela, Phophi Nematangari and Luca Keun.

Kamogelo Maseko will captain the team during the tournament. The squad will assemble in Johannesburg on the 14^th of September before heading out to Nairobi on the 16^th of September 2026.  

“Playing the Africa Cup is always a challenging but exciting task,” said Jenny van Dyk, SPAR Proteas Head Coach.

“This year’s tournament is particularly special because it gives us an opportunity to rotate our squad, see some players and try out new combinations in an effort to solidify depth in the team as we build and prepare for the 2027 Netball World Cup in Sydney

“We have just returned from Glasgow and saw enough with the players that we had; we now have an opportunity to assess new players and see what we can build with them.

“We are going to Kenya as defending champions, and our goal is to retain that title.

“We believe that we have the best players for this task and we will do well there. Building depth is what we are aiming for, and it is very important for us.”
